Reset Terminal Mac

  1. Mac Terminal Commands Cheat Sheet
Hello all,
The startup chime on my Mac Pro won't sound.
I've tried resetting the PRAM by restarting with command option P R keys until the thing chimes twice, but no luck on subsequent restarts.
Some other threads have suggested doing the command option P R trick until the chime sounds three or even four times. Done that, but again there is no startup chime on subsequent starts.
Curiously, trying to reset the PRAM like that did not change any preferences at all.
Anyhoo, is it possible to reset the PRAM from the Terminal, and if so, what is the command?
Many thanks,
Dennis

With your Mac now in Recovery Mode, click on Utilities in the menu bar followed by Terminal. A new window will show up, waiting for you to enter a command. Type ' resetpassword ' as one word. Just some time ago i installed the OS X Server app on my mac and since this day it always appears server as the chosen directory in my terminal. But because i dont really like the Server application i just removed it but the server in my terminal is still left. So i wonder now how i can get the default back like users/. I am running mountain lion on my mac.

Settings

Mac Pro 2.66GHz Quad-core/3GB/640GB. 23' Cinema Display; AirPort;, Mac OS X (10.5.8), MacBook Pro 15' 2.2/4G/120G; LaCie Quadra 500GB; PalmOne Life Drive; Nikon D80.

  • From the Utilities menu, choose Terminal. Then: csrutil disable, then exit, then reboot into High Sierra as normal. I'm not sure where you're getting -p -r as boot args to reset NVRAM, but sudo nvram -c should do the trick on High Sierra, as Tetsujin states here.
  • Restart computers using Terminal on Mac. To restart a computer now or at a specific time using Terminal, you can use the shutdown command or the systemsetup command. The following examples show some ways to use these commands, but for complete information about them, see the shutdown command man page and the systemsetup command man page.
